CanvasHeart Story

“Use the gifts that make you come alive to redeem the things that break your heart: therein lies life’s calling.”

2010. It was the year that changed my entire life trajectory. I embarked on my first international trip–to the Philippines. I came to serve, but instead, came to a startling discovery of my own identity. The quaint faces of the neighborhood children, laughter echoing through the banana trees and down the dirt path of the tiny village–all these things reconnected me to my own history, being raised in a refugee family. I had grown up hearing the stories of war, poverty, and the rustic life of a third-world country. But now, I could see it face to face.

I was overwhelmed by the reality of their poverty, and yet uplifted by the joy and laughter we shared. With their smiles lodged in my heart, I knew that I could never live life the same again.

Fast forward 10 years, and 10 countries later I am still in awe of the many incredible experiences I’ve had around the globe. From teaching art to the resilient orphan children in India, to serving the lepers of China – every experience has revealed another piece of God’s incredible love, creativity, and beauty in redeeming a broken world. As Hellen Keller states, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, but must be felt with the heart.”

Whether teaching in a makeshift classroom overseas, or hosting a creative workshop in my hometown, I have discovered something simple and profound. Art has the incredible power to heal, inspire, and create change.

And that’s why I’m thrilled to introduce to you CanvasHeart: an art company that breaks the borders of art. We exist to not just to beautify the world with our art, but to support global change in making the world a better place.
